Amarjit is a practising barrister and a specialist in Family Law and Migration Law in Australia, where he has practised since 2008. He brings extensive legal experience gained across different jurisdictions, together with a strong academic background and a longstanding commitment to professional and community service.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India, where he was awarded a gold medal for academic excellence. He subsequently undertook postgraduate studies in Commonwealth Law at the University of London after he was awarded a full scholarship by the British Council. In addition to his legal qualifications, Amarjit holds diplomas in Journalism, Public Relations and Industrial Relations, which have further strengthened his skills in advocacy, communication, negotiation and dispute resolution.
Before commencing practice in Australia, Amarjit held several senior and distinguished legal positions in India. He served as an Additional Advocate General for more than three years, representing the government in significant legal matters and appearing in complex proceedings.
Amarjit was awarded a scholarship by Rotary International and was selected to participate in a six-month Group Study Exchange Program in the United States of America.
He also served for five years as a committee member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, contributing to the organisation’s work in promoting the rule of law, professional cooperation and the exchange of legal knowledge across Commonwealth jurisdictions. Amarjit has also worked with Amnesty International in London, an experience that further developed his interest in human rights, social justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
Throughout his career, Amarjit has actively participated in international legal conferences and professional forums. He has presented papers on a range of legal topics, including Family Law and Migration Law, in London in 1996, Cyprus in 1998, Australia in 1999, Canada in 2002, the Philippines in 2005 and the United States of America in 2006.
With his extensive advocacy experience, international exposure and multidisciplinary qualifications, Amarjit approaches every matter with professionalism, compassion and a strong commitment to achieving practical and effective outcomes for his clients.
